Game Recap

The Cabrini Varsity Girls Soccer team hosted St. Catherine of Siena Academy for another match after the double-overtime CHSL quarter final thriller that resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Stars.

Excellent weather and field conditions along with a new and escalating rivalry between these two teams ensured all in attendance a good soccer match.

Both the Monarchs and Stars of St. Catherine treated the fans to some good offensive runs along with some excellent stops by the Stars goaltender and senior Abigail Burke for Cabrini. The Monarch defense was up to the task with a strong first half by juniors Meghan Bolinger and Rebecca Cwiek along with sophomores Erin O’Neil and Makayla Sukel.

The Monarchs were awarded a penalty kick late in the half when Abigail Formella was fouled in the box on a scoring opportunity. The Star’s goalie made an excellent save on the PK shot by sophomore Gabriella Teems to keep the match scoreless entering halftime.

The second half of the match was more of the same as both teams fought hard to generate scoring chances and both team defenses and goaltenders coming up big.

Each team had scoring opportunities in the 2nd half but neither was able to find the back of the net and the match ended in a 0-0 tie.

The Monarchs travel to face their inter-city rival – the Jaguars of Allen Park High School – on Thursday, May 25th for a 6 pm match. This is the final regular season game for the Monarchs who will begin District competition on Tuesday, May 30th.
