Meet Recap

The Cabrini Monarchs headed to Trenton this evening for a dual meet with the Trojans and ended up falling to them by a score of 70 to 113. The night started out pretty strong with a One – Two finish in diving by Nick Gottlob and Angela Thomson. Next the Monarchs turned in a record breaking performance in the 200 IM with Samantha Henney breaking her own school record and scoring a D3 Girls State cut in the process. Cabrini followed that up with a first place finish in the 50 Freestyle by Joe Trohimczyk and then turned in another One – Two finish in the 100 Freestyle by Trohimczyk and Ben Misovich. Overall, our performance showed us where we need to continue to work and where our work is beginning to pay off. It was also good for us to finally swim a real meet format after two weeks of relay meets. This will definitely help us prepare for this Saturday when we travel to Woodhaven to compete in the Warrior invitational.
On a side note, thank you to the Trenton parents for serving a fantastic meal to both teams after the swim meet. We appreciate your sincere and unwavering hospitality!
Go Monarchs!!!!!!

Game Recap

Cabrini lost a heartbreaker to the Kestrels of St. Mary’s Catholic Central on Monday Night. After starting the game slowly, the Monarchs found themselves down 6 points after one quarter.
Cabrini rallied in the second behind several three pointers by Samantha Holley, Lindsey Bzura, and Nadia Hazimeh to cut the deficit to two by half. The third quarter once again saw the Kestrels build on their lead pushing the advantage to 9 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Monarchs showed their grit by battling back to take their first lead with under 45 seconds remaining in the 4th, but on the next possession Alyssa Bergmooser hit a 18 foot jump shot to give St. Mary’s a lead they would never lose again. Cabrini had multiple attempts in the closing seconds to either take the lead or tie, but could not get their shots to fall. The Monarchs look to rebound over the Christmas break as they go on the road to face Carleton Airport next Tuesday.

Meet Recap

The Cabrini Monarchs traveled to Dundee High School Saturday to compete in the SMISL Relays. The team turned in another good performance collecting two varsity records and 26 personal best swims on the afternoon. Our coaches felt like we swam well after a difficult week of practice.
Highlights for the Monarchs were: Joe Trohimczyk breaking his own varsity record in the 50 Freestyle and collecting a State Cut time in the process. Trohimczyk followed that up with a varsity record in the 200 Freestyle, breaking Conor McAfee’s record from 2013.
In addition to the record breaking swims, Cabrini had five top six finishes on the afternoon. They were: a 5th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay by Elizabeth Krawczyk, Chris Day, Adam Hamid and Trohimczyk; a 4th place finish in the 500 Crescendo by Hamid, Krawczyk, Sam Sabo, Ben Misovich and David Thompson; a 2nd place finish in the 700 Long & Short Relay by Trohimczyk, Hamid, Samantha Henney, Jimmy Nicola and Krawczyk; a 6th place finish in the 300 Breaststroke Relay by Henney, Sabo, Chris Day and Thomas Banghart; and rounding out the day with another 2nd place finish in the 600 Freestyle by Trohimczyk, Sabo and Henney.
The Monarchs next test is this coming Tuesday when they travel to Trenton High School to take on the Trojans in their first dual meet of the season.

Meet Recap

On Friday evening 5 teams of divers kicked off the 2015 SMISL Relays. The Cabrini Monarchs team of Nick Gottlob and Angela Thomson turned in a respectable performance placing 3rd in the event. All five teams dove well in the event. We were very satisfied with our first diving performance of the year and felt like we were ready to compete. Both Angela and Nick bettered their scores from last year’s relay competition.

Team points for the event placed our team in third place going into Saturday’s swimming events. It’s a welcome boost to get ahead start on the team points over four of our competitors before swimming a single event.

Game Recap

The Lady Monarchs dropped their second game of the year, losing to a talented Bloomfield Hills squad 49-34. The Black Hawks jumped out to an early lead behind seven three pointers from four different players, and Cabrini could not overcome the deficit.
In the second half, Cabrini did a much better job defensively against this potent offense, holding their opponent to one three pointer and limiting the Black Hawks 6’3″ star center to 13 points overall, Sydney DeBlander led the home team with 10 points. The Monarchs resume play on Monday versus St. Mary Catholic Central at home.

Meet Recap

The Cabrini Monarchs kicked of the 2015-16 as they have for the last eight years at the Charger Relays at Crestwood High School. We returned this year as the team to beat after logging our third straight victory last season. Repeating this year would be difficult after graduating six top performers from last years team. What we were not prepared for was to have one less event in the line up to help us score points.
This year’s meet lacked diving, an event Cabrini won in every previous year. Those 14 points would have to be made up in the swimming pool and that’s exactly what the Monarchs did.
Everyone stepped up to the challenge and delivered a great performance. The team never placed lower than second in any of the events starting with a surprise win in the 200 Medley Relay by Elizabeth Krawcxyk, Chris Day, Adam Hamid and Joe Trohimczyk. We followed that up with another victory in the 600 Freestyle Relay by Samantha Henney, Sam Sabo and Ben Misovich. The relay also broke the meet record for the event and set a school record for the 200 Freestyle by Henney. The final first place finish of the afternoon was in the 200 Butterfly Relay of Henney, Hamid, Ben Misovich and Jimmy Nicola.
Our returning veterans set the pace today and all our first and second year swimmers delivered the depth we needed for our fourth straight victory. It was a great start the season. We couldn’t have asked for a better day after only 10 days of practice. It was a great day to be a Monarch!
Cabrini travels to Dundee next Saturday for the SMISL Relays at Dundee High School.
