Macomb, Mich. – The Cabrini track and field team traveled to Lutheran North to compete in the Catholic League Championships on Wednesday

Although it was a blistering hot day, the monarchs aimed to finish the season off on a good note by taking home a lot of hardware as well as setting many personal bests. Both teams put up a solid fight with the boys finishing third and the girls finishing fifth, in a very tight race.

The boys were highlighted by Michael Graf taking first place in the 800m with a huge personal record of 2:05.49 making him the fastest 800m runner in the past ten years, for Cabrini. Adam Hamid also took first in the 110m hurdles with a personal best of 18.01. Dylan Ortiz had a solid day taking second in the 1600m (4:54.13) and third in the 3200m (10:44.50), both being personal bests. The sprinters rounded out the night with Andrew Riha taking tenth place in the 100m with a time of 12.68. Jacksen Kamen took tenth in the 200m with a time of 25.31 while Jimmy Hao took eleventh in the 400m running a 59.98. Throws also concluded with Noah Hamid taking sixth place in shot put with a throw of 37-08.50 and  sixth place in discus with a throw of 118-09, both being new personal bests.

The 4x800m boys relay placed second as Dylan Ortiz, Mitchell Russelburg, Jimmy Hao and Michael Graf combined for a time of 9:29.21. The 4x400m boys relay, consisting of Jacksen Kamen, Maximiliano Iglesias, Jimmy Hao and Michael Graf recorded a time of 3:50.21 taking fourth place.

The girls were highlighted by Mikayla Trumbla finishing third in the 400m (1:08.73) and fourth in the 100m (13.80). In the 800m, Alana Maffesoli recorded a 6:14.46 to take eighth while Meghan Carr recorded a 14:53.30 in the 3200m to take ninth. The sprinters rounded out the day as Mary Dziewit took fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.19, setting a big personal best. Katelyn Drazba ran a 1:12.79 in the 300m hurdles to take ninth while Angelina Yglesias recorded a time of 30.43 in the 200m to take thirteenth.

The girls field events were highlighted by Lena Hazimeh taking second in the long jump with a jump of 14-11.25. Ava Hazimeh took fifth place in discus with a throw of 71-10. Alana Maffesoli took fifth in shot put with a throw of 24-8.5. Grace Sabo took ninth place in long jump (12-1.5).

The girls relays were rounded out by Angelina Yglesias, Mary Dziewit, Alana Maffesoli and Mikayla Trumbla putting together a time of 4:34.02 in the 4x400m relay barely being edged out to take second. The 4x100m relay team of Lena Hazimeh, Angelina Yglesias, Mary Deziewit and Mikayla Trumbla took third with a time of 54.80. The 4x200m relay team of Riley Bonar, Lena Hazimeh, Grace Sabo and Angelina Yglesias finished fourth with a time of 2:00.54.
