The Cabrini Girls Varsity Soccer team traveled to historic Fort Wayne on Thursday for a 5:30 pm CHSL Division 3 matchup against Detroit Cristo Rey.
The Monarchs started the game with an aggressive offensive press countered by Cristo Rey bunching up the middle of the pitch to break up Cabrini’s passing attack. The Monarchs stretched the field and put together a run deep into the Wolves zone resulting in a goal for the visiting Monarchs by senior Madison Sukel assisted by sophomore Abigail Formella. Formella would notch the second goal for Cabrini assisted by senior Rebecca Cwiek. Sukel scored her second goal of the 1st half putting the Monarchs up 3 to 0 at the half.
Cabrini came out in the 2nd half focused on working as a team. The results were fast and furious. Only 15 seconds in to the 2nd half, senior Sydney DeBlander scored unassisted increasing the Monarch lead to 4. DeBlander would score again on a beautiful corner kick by junior Gabriella Teems.
Senior Shannon Carr came into the game late in the second and had an immediate impact. Carr scored the Monarchs 6th goal on a second assist by Teems and would then score her second goal of the game assisted later by junior Makayla Sukel.
DeBlander would net her hat-trick goal unassisted late in the 2nd half to end the match with an 8 to 0 mercy victory for the Monarchs.
The Lady Monarchs travel to Ann Arbor on Tuesday, April 17th, for a 4:30 pm game against Ann Arbor Greenhills.
