The battle for first place in the Catholic League never materialized as Royal Oak Shrine jumped out to a 25-6 lead by early in the second quarter. “We could not get our offense going, and their backcourt didn’t miss open shots” stated Coach Ro. The Knights starting guards accounted for 21 first half points.
The second half did not go the Monarchs way either, as the Knights opened with back to back steals which led to easy scores, and the game was essentially over. Sydney DeBlander and Becca Cwiek led the visitors in scoring with 10 and 6 points.
In the JV contest, Cabrini rallied from 11 points down to win the league title with a 18-17 victory over Shrine. Caleigh Muglia and Bridget Villareal scored 6 points each to pace the Monarchs. “I was happy we continued to play hard all game when we were down early” said Coach Scott Warren. “We wanted to hold them scoreless in the third quarter to get back in the game, and we did” he stated. Cabrini held Shrine to two second half points in route to the victory.
