The Cabrini Monarchs football team roared to a 42-30 victory over Liggett Friday night in the first ever homecoming night game on Cabrini soil. A strong offensive performance was highlighted by the play of the offensive line featuring seniors Jack Freeman, Sam Solis, and Josh Fust, along with underclassmen Noah Hamid and Ben Beluzo.
Liggett got out to an early lead on a touchdown pass on their first possession. Cabrini answered with a 56 yard run by sophomore Logan Heath. With the extra point, Cabrini trailed 8-7 at the end of the first quarter.
In the 2nd quarter Matt Bzura connected with Dominic Villareal with a 48 yard td pass. Liggett answered and regained the lead 21-16 late in the second quarter. The Monarchs struck again before the half, after a Chris Lucas interception, Matt Bzura then ran 29 yards for a touchdown and a 28-16 Monarchs halftime lead.
After a scoreless third quarter Bzura and Heath struck again when each had touchdown runs sealing the Homecoming victory before a capacity crowd. The player of the game for Cabrini was junior defensive tackle Noah Hamid who paced the defense with 11.5 tackles and three sacks.
Cabrini’s next game will be vs. 6-1 Riverview Gabriel Richard at home this Friday night at 7:00 pm.
